Local Manufacturer:
New Orleans Flooring

Brief Description: Very environmentally friendly product line. Most of their products are more friendly to the environment. This line describes the products that best treat the environment through Flexco. It coud be done with rubber flooring, wall base, floor treads, etc. I would definitely consider using this product in high traffic areas where water and dirt would be coming in to make sure slip resistance is well contained. Now that it has LEED certification, it makes it an even bigger plus and not as hard of a search.

Sustainability: uses post industrial and post consumer waste, recycled substances and renewable resources. Very good products for the environment. Very active in LEED. MR 5.1 and 5.2 passed for their products with LEED.

Uses international distribution

New spray grip for rubber tiles and sheets only. Released in January 2010. It dries 50% faster than troweling.

Gracious Living

Brief Description: Their products are tile, stone, mosaics, plumbing, bath furnishings, and ceramic flooring. It all looks more like a work of art than just a material. Each small tile can create a huge work of art and not every piece is the same. Mainly seems to be used in bathrooms and kitchens. My only concern is the amount of labor and time it would take to install this. This would be absolutely gorgeous for a work of art in public bathrooms or even in private homes that could afford it.

Mosaics made with being fired and a glaze added to each piece. Could be used anywhere from traditional to modern.

3 different types of materials can create these mosaics: ceramic metal, glass, and stone.

Sustainability: no sustainability mentioned

Wall Mosaic: each piece fired, glazed, and laid on the wall like a piece of artwork
Mosaic: Tulip design; Modern and abstract

Schumacher Fabrics & Wallcoverings

Fabrics & Wallcoverings

F. Schumacher & Co.
79 Madison Avenue, 15th Floor
New York, NY 10016
1-800-523-1200

Brief Description: a fabric, wallcovering, and trim company mainly used in residential areas. They are pushing towards sustainability in their products. They can be woven or printed fabrics. Very nice quality fabrics, so I'm suspecting it to be more on the pricy side. Great with colors and patterns--a large variety. I would love using them in upper end homes. The wall coverings are very elegant and nice. It doesn't mention fire codes, so best to not use in commercial.

Sustainability: some of their products receive the green leaf logo which means the material meets a certain level of sustainability. Their linen fabric uses a natural, non-allergenic fiber. Jute is fully biodegradable and renewable fabric with natural UV protection. Velvet comes from mills that practices safe dyeing and bleaching. The wallcoverings use all natural materials, wheat-based glue, and environmentally safe dyeing processes. This includes grasscloth, sisal, and paper weaves

No safety or fire codes mentioned

3 categories of metal fabrics:

flexibility one direction

two direction

rigid

Brief Description: Manufactured for architecture. Used in interior and exterior conditions. Varies in transparency and flexibility. It comes in sheet, wire, or rod. Very sustainable. Made of stainless steel. Use soap and water for easy clean and maybe pressure washer sometimes. Very low maintenance. Fire, heat, and impact resistant.

Seems like a great product to use on large open wall space as a nice texture. Also good for exterior textures on buildings. Reflectance of light would add a lot to just a plain metal color. Could the look of metal overpower the room, though?

Sustainability: Stainless steel is a very sustainable material. It's cheaper and less labor to remelt what has already been made than to create new stainless steel.
