Brief Description: Robert Allen is a company that carries fabrics, trim, hardware and furniture. They carry assorted types of materials an furnishings such as fabrics, trim, hardware, and furniture. They even have an outlet store for all of their sell out products. They also provide shades.

Sustainability: At least 50% of the fibers in their eco friendly fabrics are sustainable, organic, and/or recycled. Their dyeing procedures must meet ETAD (Ecological and Toxicological Association of Dyes and Organic Pigments Manufacturers). Their fabrics also come from the loom state, meaning they come straight from the loom without any preparations.

Brief Description: They are a rug company that offers different styles such as geometric, organic, landscapes, etc. Their hand knotted rugs are made from 100% himalayan highland wool. Each rug is hand dyed and carded by the weavers themselves. Their use of innovative and non invasive materials includes banana silk, bamboo, cactus, linen, jute, soybean, nettle, and kemp. They are Goodweave Certified, which is a nonprofit organization that ends child labor. Knots are available in 100, 80, and 60.

Sustainability: no sustainability mentioned, but it is a good thing they are using wool b/c it is a raw material.

Brief Description: Shaw is a company that carries carpet and hardwoods. Their carpet comes in a wide range of color to meet more peoples needs. They have a commercial product. They are a corporation with $8 billion a year in revenue. They try to focus on sustainability b/c it is the way of the future. Their products are extremely durable, and its lifetime is estimated at 20-30 years. The most common type of carpet is nylon. They produce Type 6 carpet only b/c it is the only kind that is sustainable. They carry residential and commercial brands.

Sustainability: Some of their new products are cradle to cradle. You can take their carpet, and recycle it into a completely new type of carpet. They use plastic bottles to create a durable, soft backing which is more durable than their original product that was not sustainable. They are eligible for LEED MR and LEED ID.

It would do well in high end residential places. I would love to use this company if I was ever designing my own home.

Brief Description: This company specializes in outdoor furniture, but also provides indoor furniture. They have custom furniture options available. Different showrooms are located all around the world. There is only a minimum amount of maintenance required. They do not mention any fire codes or life expectancy.

Sustainability: They use a wood called teak that is weather and stain resistant, extremely dense, resists rot and warping, shrinking, and swelling. It is not endangered, and for every tree cut down, another is planted. There is no mention of LEED on their website.
